Thirteen Wollongong and Kiama State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers have been recognised for their diligent service to the local community with the presentation of National Medals and Long Service Awards.
Emergency Services Minister Steve Whan was joined by Member for Wollongong Noreen Hay to meet the volunteers to thank them for their outstanding work on behalf of the community and to hand over their Long Service Awards.
"These awards are recognition of the diligent service shown by these volunteers," Mr Whan said.
"Across the state, over 1400 of the Services' volunteers have completed ten or more years service to their community.
"It is a tribute to the dedicated volunteers of the State Emergency Service that so many have achieved this important milestone."
Ms Hay thanked the SES volunteers of the region on behalf of the people of Wollongong.
"Our region faces extreme weather at times and we thank these volunteers for their role in helping our communities clear the damage when it occurs.
"The great team spirit and friendships that develop at the SES sees volunteers staying with the service for many years, providing a wealth of knowledge and experience. Between them, the volunteers honoured here today have contributed an extraordinary 135 years of service to their local community."
Member for Kiama Matt Brown praised the volunteers of the State Emergency Service for their commitment.
"The Rees Labor Government is pleased to support the SES' volunteers with the presentation of these awards, which are a fitting recognition of their dedication and professionalism."
