17th October 2009Ministerial media release
Forty six Sydney Southern Region State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers have been recognised for their diligent service to the local community with the presentation of National Medals and Long Service Awards.
Parliamentary Secretary Assisting the Minister for Emergency Services Phil Koperberg represented Emergency Services Minister Steve Whan to meet the volunteers to thank them for their outstanding work on behalf of the community and to hand over their Long Service Awards.
"These awards are recognition of the diligent service shown by these volunteers," Mr Koperberg said.
"Across the state, over 1400 of the Services' volunteers have completed ten or more years service to their community.
"It is a tribute to the dedicated volunteers of the State Emergency Service that so many have achieved this important milestone."
SES Sydney Southern Region Controller Gary Jones thanked Mr Koperberg on behalf of the volunteers of the region.
"One of the strengths of the SES is the great team spirit and friendships that develop," he said.
"This sees volunteers staying with the service for many years, providing a wealth of knowledge and experience. Between them, the volunteers honoured here today have contributed an extraordinary 600 years of service to their local community."
Mr Whan praised the volunteers of the State Emergency Service for their commitment to their community.
"The Government is pleased to support the SES' volunteers with the presentation of these awards, which are a fitting recognition of their dedication and professionalism."
The SES 2009/10 budget of $59.7 million includes:
