$10,000 State Government boost for Canada Bay SES

16th September 2009

Ministerial media release

The Canada Bay State Emergency Service (SES) Unit has received a $10,000 State Government boost towards the fit out of its new operations centre.

Member for Drummoyne Angela D'Amore represented Minister for Emergency Services Steve Whan today to present the volunteers with the funding subsidy to enable the fit out of a new operations centre currently under construction.

"The upgrade to the unit's operations centre will transform the operating conditions for the members of the strong and growing Canada Bay Unit, enabling them to respond more effectively to storms and other disasters," Ms D'Amore said.

"This upgrade, constructed with the support of the Canada Bay Council, represents an important investment in the safety of the residents of Canada Bay and surrounding areas and, importantly, of our volunteers."

Local Controller David Johnsun said the funding subsidy would help provide welcome improvements for the Unit's volunteers.

"The Canada Bay Unit plays a key role in the safety of the community, in particular in responding to severe storms," Mr Johnsun said.

"The upgrade of the operations centre will boost the Unit's ability to respond to requests for assistance from the local community and to provide out of area assistance when required."

Minister Whan congratulated the volunteers for their hard work and commitment to protecting and assisting their community in times of emergencies and natural disasters.

"The volunteers in the Canada Bay Unit play a vital role in the protection of our community during emergencies, as well as assisting other agencies, such as the NSW Police," he said.
